概要	Every culture has heroic figures or heroic character types that represent its cultural values. Samurai warriors and cowboys are the heroic character types that represent Japanese cultural values and American cultural values respectively. In this study，these two character types are analyzed and compared so that both similarities and differences in cultural values of Japan and America rise to the surface. In the first part of the study, bushido code and chivalric code are discussed and compared to show the sources of heroism of these two heroic character types. In the second part of the study,Shichinin no Samurai (1954) which features samurai warriors and The Magnificent Seven (1960) which features cowboys, are analyzed and compared. A character analysis of both films leads to the conclusion that at the time around the Nineteen-sixties (the time when these films were made), Japanese heroic character type has idealistic elements and American heroic character type has realistic elements.
