概要 | Image evaluation in the oral cavity is difficult to quantitatively analyse. All tissues such as bones, muscles, blood vessels, lymph nodes and fat can be visualised only in black and white on computed tomography (CT). Contrast-enhanced dual-energy CT (DECT) is capable of differentiating tissues based on iodine density. The use of DECT during radiotherapy administration allows early assessment of tumour necrosis and overall treatment response. Using DECT with virtual monochromatic imaging (VMI) and iodine density imaging (IDI), the image is expressed in iodine density rather than in CT pixel values. The size and morphology of oral cancer tumours can be accurately determined using DECT if facial bone artefacts can be reduced. Although DECT can construct images with various contrasts, few studies have examined which methods produce the best contrast-enhanced CT images in the oral region.DECT is reportedly more useful than SECT in the whole body. |
