| 概要 | In recent years, oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and precursor lesions, including potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs), have increased in Japan. While early detection is crucial when the disease is localized, surgical biopsies at dental clinics are limited due to techniques and interventions within the body. In 2015, the Japanese Society for Clinical Cytology (JSCC) established new guidelines for oral cytology based on a modified Bethesda system. This guideline advocates liquid-based cytology (LBC) due to its ease of use, reproducibility, and fewer artifacts than conventional methods. It also highlights (1) evaluating insufficient specimens, (2) applying descriptive criteria for diagnosis, and (3) providing educational notes. The cytological criteria include Inadequate, NILM, OLSIL, OHSIL, SCC and IFN. |
